Confused eighth graders mistake Snowball dance for their dance

Judging by the paper decorations, Top 40 music selection and chaperones, a group of local eighth graders attended Saturday’s Snowball dance, thinking it was their own.

“We didn’t know we were at college until we saw that everyone was taller than us,” said Tabitha Rose, a local eighth grader. “We decided to stay so we could brag about it later.”

Despite the height difference, the eighth graders quickly blended in with their uncoordinated dancing. The dark lighting also helped.

“Seriously? Eighth graders were here? I didn’t even notice,” said Nicole Blankop, junior in the College of Engineering, once the event was over. “Nothing seemed unusual.”

The only time the eighth graders stood out was when they slow danced at an arm’s length apart, but that wasn’t enough for Marquette students to notice them.

“I was surprised by how much awkward eye contact there was,” said Lucas Trap, a local eighth grader. “I even saw one college person texting while another college person grinded on them.”

None of the eighth graders ended up making their correct dance. However, early reports suggest at least a few Marquette students also were confused and may have ended up at the eighth grade dance themselves.
